Shifting
Shifting is the continuation of the path begun with Welcome (2018). Over the years, the Rai Castells Quintet has developed an original repertoire and a way of working based on the continuity of the lineup. This ongoing process has allowed the music to evolve naturally, maintaining a coherent identity while remaining open to change.
Released by Fresh Sound Records, Shifting reflects this evolution and expands the quintet’s musical language through a repertoire written for a group that has spent years sharing music and the stage.

Background
The Rai Castells Quintet began to take shape during Rai Castells’ years in Boston, where he studied at Berklee College of Music between 2006 and 2009. That period laid the foundations for a group and a way of working that have continued to develop over the years.
Since then, the quintet has built its own repertoire and a musical identity based on continuity, collective work and the natural evolution of the music. Welcome (2018) was the first recording of this period, and Shifting is its continuation.
